In their Vegetation Management Plan, Dominga and the company Maristema have nursed, among other species, seeds of Huingán, a native tree that grows mainly in the La Higuera ravines. This, as a corporate responsibility initiative that seeks to protect the ecosystem of the commune.
Due to its low water requirement, fast growth, and resistance to drought, the Huingán is an ideal tree for ornamentation, which can also be used as a living fence.
It is for this reason that the company, together with the Communal Association of La Higuera, will distribute 3,000 of these species among social organizations and residents of all towns.
Those interested can approach the territorial or thematic tables, or the team of the Communities. The only requirement is to ensure the care of these species.
PROPERTIES OF THE HUINGAN
It is an evergreen native tree of the Anacardiaceae family. It measures between 1 and 4 m, with a diameter of 2.5 m, and it is branched almost from the base.
Its leaves are simple, alternate, hard and gently elongated. Its flowers are yellow and have a size of about 4 to 5 mm.
In Chile, this tree grows in the central zone, from Atacama to Los Ríos, common in the coastal mountain range, at less than 3,000 m altitude.
